Hello eurosharers!

I'm being a little selfish with this post. I do not know what this song is. I've had it for a few years now but never been able to identify. It's a jaunty number which for some reason I believe is Swedish. It's sung by an old-ish sounding man. I quite like it. Have a listen - and if you know who it is, please tell me!

Lonely night?

Helena Papa Lazirou!

This is Helena Paparizou whom you'll all, no doubt, know won the Eurovision this year, singing for Greece. Before Eurovision, Helena was in Antique but went solo in 2003 and released her first solo album in 2004. The first incarnation of this was a Greek album, an international version came later and then came Eurovision. From the Greek album, here is Zise which has a bouncy Greek-meets-Latino sound and is very bouncy and pop and fun.

Musical Me

1. What's your first musical memory of 2005?
New Year's Day, the stroke of midnight. Dancing like a crazy fool on the streets of Edinburgh to the Scissor Sisters. During Filthy / Gorgeous, me shouting my head off, I made fleeting friends with Lyndsey from Perth. Because she knew, she knew.

2. What was this year's summer jam? And winter jam?
Summer jam - I'm struggling to think of one major summer song for this year.
Winter jam - The joy that was Hung Up. Or maybe, for a less frentic workout, anything from Chemistry.

3. If your life in 2005 was a musician, which musician would it be?
Someone that changed a lot. Someone that got considerably better towards the latter half of the year - dare I say, Madonna?

4. Tell me a lyric from this year that meant something to you.
Every day and every night, the people they say to me, Miss Ana, thank you for all the beautiful work you be doing for all people... etc.

5. What was the most awful thing you saw on a stage this year? And the best thing?

Worst was a hoary rocker at a Ukrainian concert in Gdansk.

Best was easily Nanne Gronvall in Oslo. She's demented, in a brilliant, brilliant way.

6. Name the oldest music you got into in 2005.

Probably something from the 70s.

7. What was your favourite instrumental of the year?

8. Your favourite conversation about music this year: who was it with, and what was it about?

With some non-believing Swedish people about Lena Philipsson.

9. Name one thing you surprised yourself by liking in 2005.

Kaiser Chiefs.

10. Your music wish for 2006 is...?
More Euro pop fun.

11. Describe the music of 2005 in one word!

12. What will be the last music you hear this year?

It was the Madonna album, as it happened.
